Fibers engineered for continuous antimicrobial performance in textiles and nonwovens
Advanced antimicrobial technology integrated during fiber extrusion for long-lasting hygiene and odor control in textiles
HeiQ offers both plant- and metal ion-based antimicrobial technologies for extruded fibers that are designed to be built directly into synthetic materials during the melt-extrusion process, delivering long-lasting freshness, hygiene, and product protection. By embedding active ingredients into the fiber itself, these solutions continuously inhibit the growth of odor-causing microorganisms, ensuring durable performance that withstands washing, abrasion, and everyday use. Ideal for applications where longevity, reliability, and cleanliness are critical, HeiQ enables manufacturers to create high-performance fibers that stay fresher for longer, across consumer, industrial, and institutional products. The antimicrobial effect typically lasts for the lifetime of the finished product.

The science behind the technology
HeiQ’s antimicrobial extruded fiber technology integrates antimicrobial functionality directly into the polymer matrix during the fiber e...HeiQ’s antimicrobial extruded fiber technology integrates antimicrobial functionality directly into the polymer matrix during the fiber extrusion process, rather than applying it as a surface treatment after production.
During extrusion, the active antimicrobial ingredient is homogeneously dispersed within the molten polymer. As the fiber is formed, this creates a built-in, permanent protection throughout the entire fiber structure. Unlike topical finishes, which can wash or wear off over time, the antimicrobial effect remains durable and effective across the product’s lifetime.
The technology works by continuously inhibiting the growth of odor-causing and material-degrading microorganisms on the fiber surface. As the fiber is used and exposed to wear, fresh active functionality remains available, ensuring long-lasting performance without compromising the fiber’s mechanical or aesthetic properties.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
How durable is the antimicrobial effect in extruded fibers?
-
Is the antimicrobial functionality safe for skin contact and everyday use?
-
Can antimicrobial extruded fibers be used in all polymer types?
Don’t see the answer you’re looking for?Explore HeiQThe antimicrobial functionality is built directly into the fiber during extrusion, ensuring permanent protection that remains effective throughout the product's lifetime, even after repeated washing and wear.
Yes, the technology is designed for safe, everyday use and can be applied to textiles that come into direct contact with the skin, depending on the specific formulation and regulatory compliance.
The technology is compatible with a wide range of commonly used synthetic polymers, making it suitable for many fiber types and textile applications.
No, the antimicrobial is integrated within the fiber, so it does not impact the fabric's appearance, hand feel, or core performance properties.
