Textile finishing for antimicrobial odor control

Advanced antimicrobial textile technology that inhibits odour-causing bacteria for long-lasting freshness, hygiene, and clean-feel comfort

HeiQ Pure™ is a family of advanced antimicrobial odor control technologies that effectively inhibit bacterial growth on textiles for enhanced freshness, hygiene and comfort, through the natural properties of silver. With this technology applied to your textiles, the growth of all odor-causing bacteria is inhibited at a high efficacy rate.

Key benefits

  • Excellent wash durability with a lower dosage
  • Better efficacy thanks to its concentrated nature
  • Highly compatible with other textile finishes thanks to its non-ionic formulation
  • Compatible with all major fiber types, including natural fibers, synthetics, and blends (with the exception of wool, silk and viscose), without altering hand feel or breathability

HeiQ Pure™ is designed to address the root conditions that allow unpleasant sweat odors to develop on textiles. For strong body odor to form, several elements need to come together: warmth, moisture, nutrients from human sweat (such as fats and proteins), a surface like fabric, and bacteria that can multiply under these conditions. In everyday terms, when we sweat, we transfer moisture and nutrients into our clothes, creating an environment where odor‑causing processes can begin.

On untreated textiles, certain bacteria can use these nutrients as they reproduce. As part of this process, fats and proteins from sweat are transformed into volatile organic compounds, often called VOCs, which are responsible for the familiar unpleasant smell associated with worn garments. HeiQ Pure™ is designed to interrupt this chain reaction early on by limiting bacterial reproduction on the textile surface. It does this using silver ions (Ag+), which are integrated into the fabric finish to help keep bacterial growth under control and slow the formation of odor‑causing VOCs.

HeiQ Pure™ is an antimicrobial textile treatment. More specifically, it is a silver-based antimicrobial technology designed to inhibit the growth of odour-causing bacteria on fabrics, helping keep textiles clean, fresh, and hygienic over time.

HeiQ Pure™ is designed for use in textiles that come into contact with the skin and has been evaluated for skin compatibility as part of its development and approval process. Hohenstein researchers carried out field study into the effect of silver treated clothing on skin flora and microclimate. Trials from this study have showed that the natural skin flora are unaffected even after long periods of wear.

HeiQ Pure™ is available in many markets worldwide, but regional limitations apply. In particular, textiles treated with HeiQ Pure™ are not approved for sale in Canada, and local regulations and labeling requirements must always be followed.

HeiQ offers the following antimicrobial odor control test methods for your textiles:

    • Wearer trial: Test the technology in the actual situation and see its performance for the intended end use. HeiQ provides you with expert guidance to carry out the wearer trial, including the questionnaire that you can use to give objective evaluation of the performance.
    • ISO 20743 test (Staph. / Klebs.)*: Bacteriostatic efficacy test. Quantitative test method for the determination of bacteriostatic activity on textiles including nonwovens.
    • AATCC 100 test (Staph. / Klebs.)*: Standard quantitative antimicrobial test for textiles.

    *Quality Validation

Yes. Different textile finishes can be combined on the same fabric to deliver multiple effects at once. The key is formulation and process control. Finishes must be compatible and engineered to work side‑by‑side during application and remain stable during use and washing. Well‑designed combinations extend fabric functionality without changing how the textile feels or behaves in daily wear. For example, a garment can manage moisture while also reducing odour build‑up.
