Probiotic agricultural animal care

Probiotic hygiene solutions for animal housing cleaning

HeiQ VivoTech uses selected probiotics in animal housing cleaning products to support hygienic, well‑maintained environments. The products are designed for use in animal housing and daily care routines, where microbial balance and moisture control matter. They help improve comfort for animals and working conditions for farmers.

Key benefits

  • Supports a balanced microbiome on surfaces
  • Helps keep litter and manure belts drier (over 50% moisture reduction, Wern Layer Farm, Wales, UK)
  • Reduced mucking‑out frequency by over 75% through drier litter and manure belts (Wern Layer Farm, Wales, UK, 2020)
  • Supports reduction of ammonia (-8.4%) and methane (-41%) emissions from organic residues (SRUC, Scotland’s Rural College, 2024)
  • Supports stable, clean bedding conditions throughout the production cycle (controlled trial, Universidade Brasil, 2024)

Application areas

Probiotic solutions can be used across daily hygiene routines in animal housing. They are applied to surfaces, floors, and waste areas, where they break down organic residues such as manure and feed remains over time. As use continues, surfaces stay more stable and less prone to buildup.

  • Microbial cleaning for water lines

Probiotic concentrates that help break down organic buildup in water lines and support stable, clean water systems in animal housing.

HeiQ VivoTech animal housing cleaning products use selected probiotic microorganisms adapted to animal care environments. After application, these microorganisms start to digest organic residues such as manure and feed remains. As they remain active on treated surfaces, they help keep microbial conditions more consistent. The products are designed for regular use in housing, water systems, and routine cleaning.

Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms used in cleaning products for barns, stables, litter areas, surfaces, and water lines. After application, they break down manure and other organic residues directly on these surfaces. They are not feed additives.

They are used in animal housing, water lines, litter areas, and daily hygiene routines across livestock and farm environments.

Yes. They are designed for repeated use as part of routine cleaning, where they continue breaking down residues between cleaning cycles.

  • Outstanding results on a chicken farm in UK earned Pruex the 2021 Agri-Tech Excellence Award and highlighted the value of microbial cleaning in modern farming.

Pruex, a Welsh agri-tech company founded in 2016, specializes in improving animal-housing hygiene with innovative microbial solutions. At Wern Layer Farm in Welshpool, Wales, Pruex deployed HeiQ's microbial products through automated spraying systems to create a better-balanced environment for 32,000 laying hens. The approach reduced moisture levels in manure belts by more than 50% and cut ammonia levels in summer by 74%. Mucking out frequency dropped from every three days to once a fortnight, reducing labor requirements by over 75%. Egg production was optimized even under challenging conditions, while feed requirements decreased by 200 kilograms per day without loss of output. These changes delivered total cost savings of GBP 26,256 per flock and eliminated the need for antibiotics. These outstanding results earned Pruex the 2021 Agri-Tech Excellence Award and highlighted the value of microbial cleaning in modern farming.

  • Probilife Pty Ltd, based in South Africa, partners with Pruex Africa to deliver HeiQ probiotic solutions for hygiene and water treatment.

Probilife Pty Ltd, based in South Africa, partners with Pruex Africa to deliver HeiQ probiotic solutions for hygiene and water treatment. Corran Farming, an innovative crocodile farm near the south shore of Lake Malawi, replaced harsh chemical cleaning agents with a natural microbial water treatment approach. This change removed chemicals from the farm’s processes and created a way to reuse water responsibly.

As part of a UN development initiative, nutrient-rich water from the crocodile pens now irrigates 19 hectares of land and supplies three aquaculture ponds for smallholder farmers. Before this system, local farmers relied on unpredictable rainfall and fertilizers. Today, they grow crops more reliably, improve household income, and strengthen food security for their families.

Ralph Henderson, Managing Director of Corran Farming, shared: “After the water we use has been through the crocodiles, it is returned to the community, rich in nutrients and completely free of harsh chemicals. In the past, “green water” was a problem and had to be disposed of, but now it is environmentally friendly and can be used for horticulture and aquaculture by the community outside the crocodile ponds.”
This collaboration shows how natural solutions can reduce environmental impact and create shared value for agriculture and local communities.

  • Webinar: Synbiotics for hygiene and animal care

This webinar explores how synbiotics can improve animal health, productivity, and farm hygiene while helping reduce antibiotic use and ammonia emissions.
Bring nature into your barn! Learn about synbiotics, our patented combination of probiotics (good bacteria) and prebiotics (good sugars). Synbiotics empower animal care & hygiene products and result in naturally stronger, more productive animals in agriculture. The excessive use of antibiotics and harsh disinfectants has led to a growing antibiotic resistance in livestock (AMR). How can we reverse this development? How can synbiotics be used to improve animal performance, well-being and reduce ammonia output? Our guest speakers present impressive examples of farms in Europe and North America.
